Lombok is an island in the western part of the Indonesian archipelago, about 35 kilometers (22 miles) to the east of Bali. While Lombok is only a 30-minute flight away from Bali, it provides a noticeably different holiday experience for international travelers. Possibly the most obvious difference is the drastically fewer number of tourist visiting Lombok at any one point in time.
This island with it vast coastal areas of virgin white beaches, to it's lush green mountains, offers the perfect blend of serene settings with indulgent, luxury accommodation.
 | Sasak CultureThe term "Sasak" refers to the indigenous people of Lombok, and the strong remnant culture and history of the Sasak people is one of the many unique attractions of this island. The island has a total population of around 3,000,000, with 85% being the Sasak people whose origins are thought to have arisen from Java in the first millennium BC. The Sasak people are culturally and linguistically closely related to the Balinese, but unlike the Hindu Balinese, the majority practice local Muslim faith and traditions. A large percentage of the land in Lombok is devoted to farming, with tobacco, corn, bamboo, coconuts, and of course, rice being the more common crops grown. Villages in Lombok tend to specialize in one specific craft such as wood carving, stone carving, weaving, basket ware, or pottery. |
 | Island ActivitiesLombok is the ideal place to relax and unwind, but there are also many different forms of activities that a holiday visitor may engage in. There are many cultural places to visit such as traditional villages, or the many temples in Lombok, or a city tour of Mataram. For natural diversions, there are a great many pristine beaches on the island. Options also include trekking through the rice terraces, or the numerous waterfalls in Lombok. For the more athletically-inclined, there is snorkeling and scuba diving, cycling and surfing, as well as climbing expeditions to the top of Mount Rinjani: the tallest mountain in Lombok and the second highest volcano in Indonesia at 3,726 meters above sea level. |
 | Gili Islands"Gili" in Sasak means "island" and there are literally dozens of small islands scattered just off the mainland areas of Lombok in all quadrants of the compass. Probably the most common of these small coral-fringed islands - Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air - are located just minutes away from our property on the northwest coast of Lombok. These islands are popular with visitors for socializing (i.e partying), "off-mainland" dining options and also for activities such as snorkeling diving. The islands are free of cars, motorbikes and hawkers, which greatly adds to the pleasure of a visit. Transportation to the Gili Islands is available by private boat trip, with pickup being directly from our own beach in front of the property. Or, guests may take a 10-minute drive to the public harbor where a variety of boat services are available to the Gili's. Some boat services will stop at numerous sites along the way for a personalized snorkeling adventure! |
 | Climate & SeasonsAs is with almost all tropical locations, Lombok's weather is generally hot and humid for most of the year. However, even though humidity levels can be high, Lombok tends to have a drier climate than that of the neighboring island of Bali. Also, as is common with most tropical locations, Lombok's annual climate is divided into two general weather patterns: the wet and the dry seasons. The wet season usually starts in November or December and may last until March. The dry season - which is noticeably cooler than the wet season - usually begins in late March or early April and and then lasts until October or early November. |
